Some of you may be looking at this track list and scratching your heads over the inclusion of ‘Ojos Asi’ by Shakira. Of course all the club favorites from this era are here like Faith Hill’s ‘Breathe’ and the sweeping Hex Hector accompanying remix, ‘Sexual’ by Amber (a Thunderpuss instant classic), ‘I Will Go With You’ by Donna Summer that was packaged with the some of the biggest name DJs from that period, ‘Someone To Hold’ by Veronica showcasing Johnny Vicious’ versatility who would go on to be an in demand DJ in the early millennium, Whitney Houston’s defiant ‘It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay’ (another Thunderpuss instant classic that takes the R&B original and jacks it up by a factor of 100 while blowing a hole in the roof with Whitney’s powerful vocals – thank you Clive) and the massive ‘You’re Still the One’ by Shania Twain courtesy of Soul Solution. With it’s ubeat synths and fantstic harmonies - ‘Lately’ packed floor every time it dropped. We kick the party off with one of our all-time favorties ‘Lately’ by Divine with Joanathan Peters performing remix duties. She has an interesting voice and a great range.Party Favorz is back with volume three of the Ultimate 90’s House Classics and this set dives deep into progressive territory. I love her music and I still listen to Laundry Service after all of these years. She can sing in English and in Spanish and she can mix up a variety of different styles and pull each and every one of them off well. Shakira is not really defined by one category. Some of the sounds have more of a pop feel to them while others sound more like rock and roll. The vocals are amazing on every track and the instrumentals are much different than the ones you would find on the CDs put out by American recording artists. You don’t have to speak Spanish to appreciate “Ojos Asi” or “Que Me Quedes Tu”. Despite the two different languages, I think that this album can be enjoyed by anyone. Even though each song sounds different, the album as a whole is very cohesive. On later albums, her English songs are just as good as the Spanish ones.Ī bunch of different sounds that somehow manage to all work extremely well together. I think that is because this is one of her first efforts to cross over into the English music industry so she is just getting on her feet. I definitely think that Shakira sounds much better in all of her Spanish songs, at least on this album. It is very slow and kind of somber, but it is a very great song. “Underneath Your Clothes” was definitely one of the most popular of the songs on this CD in the United States. There are lines that seem kind of nonsensical, but it is a good song nonetheless. It is one of those songs that contains phrases that may have made more sense in Spanish. The lyrics to “Poem to a Horse” seem kind of silly. This song has an awesome music video to go with it where Shakira pretends to be a bullfighter. The album that means “I leave you Madrid”. “Te Dejo Madrid” is another Spanish song on. Even though I do not speak fluent Spanish, I love the message that this song sends. It basically means “As Long as You Stay With Me” and is about being alright no matter the circumstances just as long as the person you love is right there by your side. It was very successful on the Latin Billboard charts but never really became popular in the United States. I am glad that she decided to include it on Laundry Service. This is a song that was first on another album. “Que Me Quedes Tu” is one of my favorite songs of all time, not to mention my favorite on this album. This album has songs in both English and Spanish. Whenever or wherever, she wants to be with her lover. It is about being together no matter what. Popularity really started and I am glad that she made the decision to cross over to recording songs in English. It was originally written in Spanish (with a song called “Suerte”) so she recorded a second version of it. That was one of the very first English songs that she released.
“Whenever Wherever” was the major hit off of “Laundry Service”. Many people no longer listen to the hits that came from that album, but it was definitely a great achievement in her career.
One of her very first albums was “Laundry Service” and I think it has been her best out of her entire career. Her music video for “She Wolf” was proof of the fact that she is one of the best dancers that the music industry has ever seen, comparable to Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul. She has always been one of my favorite female recording artists because she is an amazing vocalist as well as an extremely talented dancer. All reviews Support Shakira is one of those artists who has been extremely successful yet somehow manages to fly under the radar until she has huge hits like “She Wolf” or “Beautiful Liar”.
